QUOTATIONS OF "BLACK"
"Whenever I use BLACK it relates to some history of Africans in that particular place. It’s the idea of the color BLACK as a metaphor, or as a representation of African-Americans. It’s the notion of BLACK- BLACKNESS - and all its other meanings in relation to the history of race..."
- Fred Wilson
"Most of my fortitude to continue doing the work comes from the moral outrage I feel about the injustices that Black people endure disproportionately daily."
- N. Abdul-Wakil
"In the end, what matters is not skin shade but pan-African consciousness. Loving your complexion, your nose, lips, hair length and texture, no matter what the politics or trends decide, and simply be. That's the problem with us (African folks). We're still learning how to love ourselves. So used to glorifying others and putting others first..."
- Dredlocks Tree

A special event taking place Saturday, March 6th, 2010 in honor of the late E. Lynn Harris.
As part of the National Black Writers' Conference happening at Medgar Evers College I would love if you could join writers and friends of E. Lynn Harris as we come together to celebrate his works and life. New York Times best-selling author, E. Lynn Harris, left a distinguished mark in the literary world before his passing on July 23, 2009. Authors and friends include: Victoria Christopher Murray, Karen E. Quinones Miller, Karen Hunter, Donna Hill, and Erika Kendrick, and many more. There will be a special reading by Terrance Dean, Stanley Bennett Clay, and James Earl Hardy from their highly anticipated tribute book to E. Lynn entitled, "Visible Lives" (Kensington). The book is slated for release May 25th, 2010. This event is free and open to the public. I hope you all can make it out for this special tribute.
Also, Brownstone Books will be on hand with copies of E. Lynn Harris's books for sale, and the authors will sign his books on his behalf.
