QUOTATIONS OF "BLACK"

"Whenever I use BLACK it relates to some history of Africans in that particular place. It’s the idea of the color BLACK as a metaphor, or as a representation of African-Americans. It’s the notion of BLACK- BLACKNESS - and all its other meanings in relation to the history of race..."

- Fred Wilson

"Most of my fortitude to continue doing the work comes from the moral outrage I feel about the injustices that Black people endure disproportionately daily."

- N. Abdul-Wakil

"In the end, what matters is not skin shade but pan-African consciousness. Loving your complexion, your nose, lips, hair length and texture, no matter what the politics or trends decide, and simply be. That's the problem with us (African folks). We're still learning how to love ourselves. So used to glorifying others and putting others first..."

A Special Announcement From Daniel Beaty

Award-winning actor, singer
& writer Daniel Beaty
Thank you for your tremendous support of my solo-play Through the Night. Because of our success at the Riverside Theatre, I am thrilled to announce, Producer Daryl Roth, is transferring Through the Night to the 499-seat Union Square Theater for an extended off-Broadway engagement beginning September 10, 2010.

Bill Cosby, Ruby Dee, Phylicia Rashad, Ben Vereen, and others have joined the team as Ambassadors to help spread the word. Our goal is to share this story with as many people as possible. Voza Rivers/New Heritage Theatre will be intimately involved.

Through the Night will also succeed because of your personal relationships, recommendations and advocacy of the importance of this production. On August 9th we are hosting a Launch/Group Sales Event to garner excitement about the show and to help get the word out.

I am requesting that you invite people in your network who are connected to organizations that can bring people to the show such as universities and colleges, churches and youth groups, fraternities & sororities, book clubs, trade unions, and other civic/social organizations.

At the Launch Event I will perform excerpts from Through the Night. After the performance our team will speak with you about how you and your guests can be involved. We will provide information about a Special 50% Community Discount for performances beginning September 10 and ending on October 10, 2010.

Here are the details for the Launch/Group Sales Event:
Monday, August 9th at 7 PM
The Riverside Theatre
