QUOTATIONS OF "BLACK"

"Whenever I use BLACK it relates to some history of Africans in that particular place. It’s the idea of the color BLACK as a metaphor, or as a representation of African-Americans. It’s the notion of BLACK- BLACKNESS - and all its other meanings in relation to the history of race..."

- Fred Wilson

"Most of my fortitude to continue doing the work comes from the moral outrage I feel about the injustices that Black people endure disproportionately daily."

- N. Abdul-Wakil

"In the end, what matters is not skin shade but pan-African consciousness. Loving your complexion, your nose, lips, hair length and texture, no matter what the politics or trends decide, and simply be. That's the problem with us (African folks). We're still learning how to love ourselves. So used to glorifying others and putting others first..."

Yolo Akili's Purple Galaxy Spoken Word CD
And His Preachers & Power Video Blog Commentary

Spoken Word (SGL) Artist Yolo Akili

I found out about Yolo Akili through the progressive and well put together Black SGL blog called Wandering Caravan.

BronzeBuckaroo, who runs the blog always has some interesting pieces on there, but I wanted to hi-lite Yolo Akili (a young, mad cute & attractive, and progressive-minded brutha) who's a spoken word artist.

Official Website: yolothepoet.com

And check out Yolo's website, too. I went to Amazon.com and downloaded Yolo's new CD Purple Galaxy. CDBaby.com and iTunes also has his music as well.

Also, below is his first video-blog and where he speaks out about Eddie Long the preacher down Atlanta. However, regardless of the outcome of the allegations against Eddie Long case, the point of Yolo's video is that there are larger issues that he touches on regarding the African community here in America. It's a very good 5 minute listen for sure.
