QUOTATIONS OF "BLACK"

"Whenever I use BLACK it relates to some history of Africans in that particular place. It’s the idea of the color BLACK as a metaphor, or as a representation of African-Americans. It’s the notion of BLACK- BLACKNESS - and all its other meanings in relation to the history of race..."

- Fred Wilson

"Most of my fortitude to continue doing the work comes from the moral outrage I feel about the injustices that Black people endure disproportionately daily."

- N. Abdul-Wakil

"In the end, what matters is not skin shade but pan-African consciousness. Loving your complexion, your nose, lips, hair length and texture, no matter what the politics or trends decide, and simply be. That's the problem with us (African folks). We're still learning how to love ourselves. So used to glorifying others and putting others first..."

BREAKING NEWS!!
The New "GLO TV Network"
Dedicated To The Urban
SGL (Same Gender Loving) Audience
Coming Fall 2010!!

www.gloTVnetwork.com

Hey Black Family,

Just got this hot off the digital press some hours ago, I got some jaw dropping information: an entity called GLO TV Network will be launching in the fall 2010 and is the first and only dedicated Black same gender loving channel.

Click the pic or he link below to read the press release.

This is exactly what we've needed for some time! And now that we have a new venture happening it will be IMPORTANT that WE SUPPORT this network/channel anyway we can.. this INCLUDES FISCALLY if we are called upon for that type of SUPPORT! As my friend DELMAR always says, "We have to pay for our own liberation".

I've never ever liked the Logo Channel or the HERE! Channels' programming policies and decisions. And I VOTED with my wallet and did not subscribe to their networks as part of my monthly cable package. We've seen how the Black SGL (same gender loving) tv series Noah's Ark and The DL Chronicle got F**KED over, right? And putting African-American actor Jensen Atwood in the lilly white show Dante' Cove is not my idea of diversity; if anything it smacks with objectification of the Black man!!

I personally engaged in an e-blast campaign last year (2009) for us to write letters to these two networks which was quite effective in getting their attention because I received feedback from bruthaz who wrote in and told me what their responses were. I, too, wrote two raw and biting letters to both networks and blasted them for their lack of Black programming and overall representation of people of color (the African, Asian, Native America, Latino Diasporas).

Alright folks. be ready to "GLO" and lend your support when need be! Read on...

Hollywood, CA — March 24, 2010 — Maurice Jamal, Award Winning Filmmaker, announced yesterday at the Flipping The Script: Beyond Homophobia in Black Hollywood panel the launch of GLO Television Network coming Fall 2010. The event moderated by actress Sheryl Lee Ralph at the Writers Guild of America, examined the issues regarding the African-American gay and lesbian community in film and television and how to make a positive change within black entertainment and the community at large.

“This is a new day. We need to take the lead in creating opportunities and making the quality entertainment we deserve. GLO TV is innovative and forward thinking. This network is our network: with quality programming geared towards the urban LGBT audience, family, friends and allies. Our community is more than just one ethnicity, one race, one body type, one region or creed. GLO TV is about showing us in all our vibrant colors,” Jamal states.

The urban LGBT community, our family, friends and allies are diverse, valuable, powerful and important: The time has come for us to stand up and be counted.

The time has come for our stories to be told. The time has come for us to show just how amazing we can be. The time has come for GLO.

“This is a major shift in my career and I did some soul-searching, but it was so clear that this was right.” says Jamal. “My partners and I understood the risks with this new and exciting venture; we have faith that it’s the right decision for gay and lesbian community, it’s something we deserve, something that’s overdue. There were no national platforms for the urban LGBT community to share our stories, but now we have GLO TV.”

About The GLO Television Network:

The GLO TV Network is the first network dedicated to the Urban LGBT audience, families and allies. GLO TV will feature a full slate of programming: From original series and feature films, to classics we've grown to love; with cutting edge news programs, documentaries and music that breaks boundaries; presenting artists you can't see anywhere else to our favorite celebrities. The mission of GLO TV is to present you with what you want, how you want it, when you want it. You'll be able to find GLO TV across the country, in every market. 24 hours a day. 7 days a week.

Each of us laughs cries, sometimes we jump for joy, sometimes we struggle in life, and we hope for love. We each do our best, day by day. GLO is about showing all of who we are with programs that are entertaining, informative, affirming and sometimes provocative. GLO understands that within each of us is a unique story to be told. We have a range of perspectives, ideals and beliefs as varied as we are. We will present these stories with creativity, quality and integrity.

It's time for us to get our "shine" on.
That's you.
That's us.
That's GLO.

The Future Announces The Official Launch of the New Website – www.TheFutureForward.net

New York, NY — August 31, 2009 — The Future, the nation’s latest media outlet and network for the black LGBT community, today announced plans to officially launch their new website on Tuesday, September 1st .

The decision to make TheFutureForward.net available on the world wide web was made by The Future’s President, Nathan Seven Scott and Vice-President, Cornelius Jones Jr., after receiving numerous requests during the past few years of the lack of media communication and connection in the black LGBT community. “We wanted to create a space were people could express themselves while voicing their opinions. The Future’s team have done a lot of soul-searching to make sure this was the right decision,” says Nathan Seven Scott, President of The Future. “We recognize the risk we are taking with this leap but have faith that it is the best decision for us, as well as adding another voice for the community as a whole. Currently, there are not many network titles available on a national or international level and we believe strongly that The Future will be filling a much-needed niche.”

Originally established as an events company for nightlife party goers in New York City in March 2009, The Future expanded its position and created a network which included the social media networks they were already apart of to include all major global cities. “Word spread quickly about our network” says Cornelius Jones Jr., Vice President of The Future, “and we found ourselves growing at a very rapid pace to accommodate special events like; Why Am I Single to Greet the Press and filming The Future TV, We Are The Media. We started promoting our original context weekly like ; Dishin’ with Dwight, The MEGA World of Lil Mogul, Arts, Advocacy + Wellness with Cornelius Jones Jr. and Notes from Nathan with a successful following.”

In preparation for its national network launch, The Future have formed alliances with media partners from all around the global to give us a clear view of the world with a COLORFUL eye. Contributors by: Giovanni Centurione, Nathan James, Tweet This with Drama Dupree, Hayward Aaron, BoysandClothes.com, BlackGayGossip.com, International News from Karanja Gacuca & Antoine B. Craigwell of GBMNews.com, Made in Brazil and JC Report, Special Features by Lonnell Williams; In Our Ear with Doo Dirty Show, Better Days Radio and The Pride Cast ; destination finders VIPListers.com and ZenBiz Travel and special editorial photo journalist Dexstar G | The Peoples Photographer. “As individuals, we both have a lot of personal integrity and wanted to make our network’s national debut with real credibility,” says Jones. “Whatever our circulation and viewership are, we want our advertisers to know that we have been honest from the start.”

The Future will debut online, as well as begins the season of original programming scene on The Future TV. The Future will market itself and make several appearances at select PRIDE festivals and special events in 2010 to promote the network and build its viewership base throughout the world.

About The Future

Philadephia QFest
(Formerly Known as the Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival)
July 9th-20th, 2009

Hey Black Family,

I just received an email about the Philadelphia QFest 2009 (formerly known as the Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival), a 15th Annual event. July 9th - July 20th, 2009

The link below is a line-up specific to the African Diaspora:

BIG ROD's E-Move to Nubian Knight Network and Greet The Press with The Future: New Multi-media Company Targeting the Black SGL Consumer

Hey Black Family,
I'm going to be experimenting by moving (or e-moving) all the information I send out to my Nubian Knights Network: Writings on the Black Wall BLOG which has been largely inactive the past year.

The benefit of this change is having all the information I send out archived in one location and accessible by YOU, the Black family. I've been resisting the blog world because, quite frankly, everybody and their damn mother has one, and I really didn't want to add to it. But after serving as a panelist (thank you Cornelius, it was an honor) and also listening as a concerned Black same gender loving humanitarian activist/citizen at last night's (Monday, June 22nd, 2009) Greet The Press with The Future: New Multi-media Company Targeting the Black Same Gender Loving Consumer (at The Brecht Forum), it is imperative more than ever that we as Black same gender loving folks tell and document our stories. And I have to put out a special THANKS to Laurence Pinckney who has been a very good friend to me and constantly staying on my ass for years now about doing this information blog thing because he feels I have a valuable voice in the community.

So anyway, I'll try it and see how this goes. My e-blasts will continue to be routinely posted to my Nubian Knights YahooGroup and the other numerous YahooGroups I post to that a lot of you rely on. That hasn't changed.

Also, to be honest I really get burned out doing this information e-blasting work sometimes. At the same time, the "BIG ROD" persona has grown on-line over the years (beyond my control, too, LOL!) and yet, every so often there will be a different social function I'll attend or that occasional email I'll receive from some brutha or sistah I don't know out there who THANKS me for the information I put out there they otherwise would not have known about. I'm surprised and moved beyond belief by someone I meet in person who is smiling and glad to meet "BIG ROD" face to face and so happy they like my voice in the wilderness and the invaluable info they get from my postings. So because of those experiences and last nights Greet The Press event, I continue to press on (no pun intended) and take breaks whenever I need to revitalize myself.

Lastly, MAN(!), I'll tell you what, I was in awe last night with the heavy hitters we had on-hand at Greet The Press. Progressive folks like Toyce Francis, Mike Street, Dwight, Nathan Seven, Cornelius Jones, Jr., Ra-Fael Blanco, Kirk Shannon-Butts, Derrick Briggs and the list goes on was ultra-qool assness! LOL! Also, I was pleased to see Black (SGL) photographers and videographers doing interviews and whatnot. It was so surreal because I told one person the press is usual white... but not last night it wasn't. It was US! As a first time effort, the talent and people at th event last night was never less than fucking POWERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, let me not ramble on. A humbled thanks to Richard Pelzer, Dwight Allen O'Neal, Nathan Seven Scott, Cornelius Jones, Jr. and anyway else I've forgotten for making Greet The Press with The Future: New Multi-media Company Targeting the Black Sam Gender Loving Consumer happen.

To start off my blog again, I have two links for y'all to check out:
