QUOTATIONS OF "BLACK"

"Whenever I use BLACK it relates to some history of Africans in that particular place. It’s the idea of the color BLACK as a metaphor, or as a representation of African-Americans. It’s the notion of BLACK- BLACKNESS - and all its other meanings in relation to the history of race..."

- Fred Wilson

"Most of my fortitude to continue doing the work comes from the moral outrage I feel about the injustices that Black people endure disproportionately daily."

- N. Abdul-Wakil

"In the end, what matters is not skin shade but pan-African consciousness. Loving your complexion, your nose, lips, hair length and texture, no matter what the politics or trends decide, and simply be. That's the problem with us (African folks). We're still learning how to love ourselves. So used to glorifying others and putting others first..."

- Dredlocks Tree

  1. Here we go again!, This is absolutely fantastic. No. 1, I had no idea that the ALP did this! And to be the 14th Annual event, well, I'm so embarrassed but glad to finally be in the loop!

It seems that with efforts such as this, the passing of the marriage equality issue, and Bed-Stuy & Harlem Pride we (black SGL's) can coalesce and be a great force for good in this town. So much bad shit is happening right now not just in NYC but in the world as a whole that it gives one a reason to pause and feel hopeless. We all, are literally observing the decline of the American empire. However, if we as SGL individuals can act like a 'mighty hand' and close those individual fingers and form a tight fist, then we can have the power, exercise it and be a power in this town the likes of which no one ever expected to happen. We could exercise so much influence & power that folks will want to sue us to be among us, thats how fabulous we can become. A power to be reckoned with. We have so much to offer the world. So this picnic, Bed Stuy Pride and Harlem Pride are good things.

Next stop, take this energy to the elected officials and make them earn our votes and be a community that they (the elected officials) must come to and recognize in order to be able to get into office.

We are living out a scene from "A Tale of Two Cities" "...the best of times and the worse of times." It certainly is an exciting time to be a Black SGL man but a dark time being a Black man in general.

OK Rod help me down off this cross! LOL!!!
