QUOTATIONS OF "BLACK"

"Whenever I use BLACK it relates to some history of Africans in that particular place. It’s the idea of the color BLACK as a metaphor, or as a representation of African-Americans. It’s the notion of BLACK- BLACKNESS - and all its other meanings in relation to the history of race..."

- Fred Wilson

"Most of my fortitude to continue doing the work comes from the moral outrage I feel about the injustices that Black people endure disproportionately daily."

- N. Abdul-Wakil

"In the end, what matters is not skin shade but pan-African consciousness. Loving your complexion, your nose, lips, hair length and texture, no matter what the politics or trends decide, and simply be. That's the problem with us (African folks). We're still learning how to love ourselves. So used to glorifying others and putting others first..."

ROD's Summer Trip To Michigan (2011) - Part III
DAY 3: Charles H. Wright African American Museum / The Traffic Jam Restaurant

DAY 4: Thursday, July 28th, 2011...

I have heard so much about the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History... IT TOTALLY LIVED UP TO EVERY EXPECTATION AND MORE.

The circular design of the museum is outstanding and there's so much to see. And the whispers of voices that I heard that you can hear in the lobby of the museum is PHENOMENAL. It's like the Ancestors speaking, but it's actually the people having conversations in the building and the architectural is intentionally designed with the effect of hearing voices. Truly phuckin' amazing!...

I only have a few pictures of the museum and none of the exhibits on display because photography is not allowed beyond the lobby, however, even the lobby's architecture is amazing. The Warren Entrance -- let's go...

  1. Rod, this is a beautiful web site, and it will probably take many months before I can even begin to plumb the depths of its treasures.

I need to ask you, however, about your presentation of "Otta Benga". Is this the same person as Ota Benga, who was put on display in the Bronx Zoo in 1906. His story is amazing, but would not be summed up by your image or the caption.

  2. Lester!! SO HUMBLED FOR YOU VISIT BRUTHA!!!

WOW! I had no idea that Ota Benga was a real person! My presentation of Ota Benga is a publicity still (that I LOVE) from the film "The Fall" which brutha Delmar turned me onto.

The Fall (2006) is an adventure fantasy film directed by Tarsem Singh which has this one particular character (of many) Ota Benga who BROKE HIS CHAINS during ENSLAVEMENT in order to be FREE!.

I MUST LOOK INTO THE LINK YOU PROVIDED! THANK YOU, LESTER!!!
